# Location cluster

In order to benchmark the performance of a location, you need to **compare** this location **to other similar locations.** All locations within one cluster are assumed to be similar and should therefore have nearly-similar sales **performance results.** Locations are typically clustered on:

-   Population density around a location
-   Region
-   Macro environment indicators: e.g. low, normal and high market space
-   Micro environment indicators: e.g. stand alone vs. high cross visit potential, bad location characteristics

You can filter on location cluster in the location performance module. The cluster is typically displayed in the opportunity framework.
